Rockwater Tours has been in the works for over a decade. Shawn, your humble narrator and guide, has lived in and loved Toronto for 20+ years, and loves sharing all the wonderful, fun, and interesting things he has learned with anyone who will listen. After being told “you should do this for a living” often enough, Rockwater Tours was created to try and do just that.

Originally from Northern Ontario, Shawn’s love of exploring and travel was first inspired by his grandmother Anita, who took every opportunity to take little Shawn to visit family wherever they were – Montreal, the Ottawa Valley, Barrie, and Toronto. That love was further developed by travelling to all points of Ontario through his church youth group, and he set out on his first unsupervised trip with a friend in high school to Toronto, ostensibly to buy computer parts (it was the early 90s, they were hard to come by), but really to get out and explore the city on his own.

His first “real” job was recruiting for a university, which allowed him to explore every nook and cranny of the province, but Toronto always ended up as part of the trip. He then worked for a national Youth Service organization, where he also spent more time on the road in Ontario than in his apartment.

After settling into his career – he teaches high school Drama, English, and History – he started to get the travel bug again, and has been all over North America, Europe, and Australia. He hopes that this project helps fund further travels further afield.
